Major decision of the Vietnam government for data security, proposal for identification of IP address

Hanoi, October 31 (IANS). The government of Vietnam has taken great steps to ensure data and cyber security. According to local media VnExpress, there is a proposal to appoint the Ministry of Public Security to manage Internet Protocol (IP) address identification. The proposal, put forward by the Vietnamese government, is part of a draft law on cyber security presented on Friday during the ongoing session of Vietnam’s 15th National Assembly (NA). Public Security Minister Luong Tam Quang said the draft law is based on the 2018 Cyber Security Law, which retains 21 articles and amends and supplements nine others, Xinhua News Agency reported. He said the amendments focus on ensuring data security, delegating responsibility for IP address identification and setting up mechanisms for specialized cyber security forces. The NA’s Committee on National Defence, Security and Foreign Relations recommended that in addition to children, the draft law should also protect other vulnerable groups such as the elderly and persons with limited or lost civil functional capacity. Earlier this week, Vietnam pledged to accelerate the development of its artificial intelligence (AI) industry, while increasing security, transparency and accountability in AI management and development, Vietnam News Agency reported. Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung pledged to develop a human-centered, open, secure, sovereign, collaborative, inclusive and sustainable AI ecosystem during a roundtable discussion organized under the Vietnam International Digital Week (VIDW-2025). He emphasized that AI development must be based on four key pillars: a strong AI framework, modern AI infrastructure, AI talent and an AI culture. The minister said Vietnam is also committed to promoting international cooperation to share knowledge and values, promote long-term development and encourage the development of open source AI to improve transparency, cooperation and innovation. VIDW 2025, held from Monday to Wednesday in Ninh Binh province and the capital city of Hanoi in northern Vietnam, featured exhibitions and forums on digital transformation and innovation, as well as highlighting policies and frameworks to promote safe, transparent and responsible AI governance. –IANS KK/ABM
