Jakarta – Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference or at the same level as chairman of the MPR of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Huning, has made a series of visits to Indonesia. His presence was welcomed by the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian Legislative Assembly, Eddy Soeparno, at the Soekarno Hatta Airport. “Welcome to Indonesia, Chairman of the MPR of the People’s Republic of China, YM Wang Huning. We hope that YM Wang Huning’s visit will strengthen strategic and mutually beneficial cooperation between Indonesia and China in various policies and developments,” Eddy said in his statement, Thursday (4/12/2025). Eddy said that in Indonesia, Wang Huning will meet the leadership of the DPR, MPR, DPD and also the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto. Scroll TO CONTENT “Currently, China is the country that is building the largest renewable energy system in the world with a major focus on solar and wind power, although there is still dependence on coal-fired power plants,” he said. “In 2025, the addition of renewable energy in China is likely to reach 793 GW, an increase of 11 percent from 717 GW in 2024,” he continued. The UI PhD in Political Science said China’s achievements could be in line with Prabowo’s commitment to accelerate the energy transition to meet the decarbonization goal of 2060 or earlier. “As countries that are both trying to transition to clean energy, Indonesia and China can cooperate in various policy areas, including investment in the development of renewable energy in Indonesia, which requires quite large financing with the potential to open up large jobs (green jobs),” said Eddy. Eddy believes that Wang Huning’s meeting with Prabowo will strengthen economic cooperation between Indonesia and China, which are currently together in BRICS. “Indonesia must take advantage of opportunities for economic cooperation with China and BRICS to expand export markets as well as to diversify our trade commodity strategy. This is a necessary and important breakthrough so that there is no dependence on certain destination countries, while increasing new economic opportunities in countries with emerging economies,” he concluded. For information, during his visit, Wang Huning was accompanied by, among others, the Indonesian ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Djauhari Oratmangoen and the Chinese ambassador to Indonesia, Wang Lutong.
