Jakarta – The National Police Traffic Corps’ humanitarian team went directly to the flood-affected areas in the Aceh Tamiang area. Besides cleaning facilities and infrastructure, the team also distributed basic food aid to the community. Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, explained that the dispatch of humanitarian teams and basic food aid was a form of the National Police Traffic Corps’ quick response to the order of the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to help communities in disaster-stricken areas. According to Police Commissioner Sandy, Alur Bemban Village was one of the areas badly affected by the floods that hit Aceh Tamiang. “We are in Alur Bemban Village, one of the villages affected by the flood disaster in Aceh Tamiang and the people here are very enthusiastically queuing to receive basic food aid from the National Police Traffic Corps,” said Sandy. He further added that it is hoped that the basic food aid will ease the burden on residents facing floods and help meet their basic needs amid difficult circumstances. “Of course, it can help them survive amid flood conditions that leave them in a state of disaster and grief,” he added. Through this activity, Korlantas Polri hopes that the affected communities will recover quickly and can survive until conditions return to normal. “The hope is that the community can recover quickly and continue to survive until everyone recovers well,” he concluded. They worked together to clean one of the mosques in Aceh Tamiang that was also affected by the flash flood. The mosque that was cleaned was the Nurhasanah Mosque. Traffic police officers initially separated dozens of Al-Qurans that were dirty and mixed with mud from the flood. The National Police Traffic Corps Humanitarian Team did not seem uncomfortable cleaning up the remaining mud. Armed with hoes, they worked hard to clear the sinkholes in front of the mosque. This activity does not only involve traffic police members either. This mutual cooperation action also involved the relevant local communities. Traffic police members and local residents appeared to be working together to clean up the remaining dirt carried by the flood. “We will clean these culverts completely and water will flow from the back to the front so that the water channels can function in such a way that when it rains the water can continue to flow,” explains Sandy. Sandy said the thick mud conditions at the site made the cleanup process quite difficult. One of the traffic police members even blacked out due to the heavy terrain at the location. However, he assured that this condition does not dampen the enthusiasm of the traffic police in cleaning the Nurhasanah Mosque. This activity will continue until the condition of the mosque is clean again. “Hopefully, whatever little we do, it will be helpful,” he said. (day/day)
