New Delhi, October 31 (IANL). The Congress on Friday made a major organizational reshuffle in its Delhi unit, appointing six new district Congress committee presidents. Besides, senior observers and ward officers have also been appointed for the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections. According to a release issued by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved these appointments with immediate effect. The newly appointed district presidents of the Congress’ Delhi unit include Mahendra Bhaskar (Karol Bagh), Mohammad Usman (Chandni Chowk), Rajesh Yadav (Najafgarh), Sumit Sharma (Krishna Nagar), Virendra Sharma (Mehrauli) and Mohinder Mangala (New Delhi). Political analysts believe that these new appointments have been made with the aim of strengthening the district-level leadership of the old party in the national capital ahead of the crucial MCD by-elections. The release also mentioned the appointment of senior observers and ward heads for 12 wards of Delhi, showing the party’s structured approach for the upcoming local elections. Rajesh Lilothia has been appointed as senior observer and Sharanjeet Sharma as ward in charge of Chandni Chowk ward, while Haroon Yusuf and Jagjivan Sharma will look after the work of Chandni Mahal. Hari Shankar Gupta and Satendra Sharma will take charge of Shalimar Bagh-B, while CP Mittal and Praveen Bhugra will take charge of Ashok Vihar. In East Delhi’s Vinod Nagar, Anil Chaudhary has been appointed as senior observer and Mujeeb Rehman is ward commander. Vijay Lochav and Charanjit Rai will handle the work of Narayana, while Abhishek Dutt and Neetu Verma will handle the work of Sony Greater Kailash (No. 173). The list also includes Jag Pravesh and Gopal Thakur for Mundka, Kamal Kant Sharma and Rajesh Yadav for Dwarka-B, and Krishna Tirath and JP Panwar for Dichau Kalan. Similarly, for the wards in South Delhi, Sangam Vihar-A will be overseen by Hasan Ahmed and Chandrakant Giri, while the responsibility of South Puri has been handed over to Jitendra Kochhar and Jai Prakash. These appointments were made as part of the party’s efforts to revive its grassroots presence in Delhi. According to sources, the new organizational structure is expected to streamline coordination between the district units and the Pradesh Congress Committee during the upcoming by-elections. –IANS PSK
