File photo Jagran Correspondent, Sonipat. The Electricity Corporation has taken a major step to stop the increasing electricity theft and line loss in the district. Now any consumer can get reward for reporting electricity theft. The corporation further tightened its system and announced that the complainant will get a reward of 10 percent of the fine collected. Electricity Corporation has issued special helpline numbers for complaints related to electricity theft. Complaints can be made toll-free at 18001807332 and can also be reported on WhatsApp at 9115151900. Consumers can immediately report the theft, after which the corporation’s teams will reach the spot and take action. Line losses are constantly increasing in the district due to which the corporation incurs a loss of lakhs of rupees every month. To prevent theft, the monitoring system has been strengthened and additional guidelines have been issued to the field staff. On receipt of complaint of theft, special surveillance teams will reach the place, investigate and take action. If theft is proven, a heavy fine will be imposed on the consumer and the complainant will be rewarded accordingly. Officials say that electricity theft is very high in many places and towns, due to which there is a lot of line loss. Now a big campaign is going to be launched to stop it. The identity of the person making the complaint will be kept confidential. Officials of the Electricity Corporation said that the identity of the person making the complaint will not be disclosed under any circumstances. They will ensure that there is no pressure or problems on those who give information. The department believes that only when people can complain without fear can theft really be stopped. The people of the district must cooperate in this campaign to stop theft and must immediately inform the corporation of any suspicious activity.
