Jagran Correspondent, Patna. A mock drill on bomb threats was conducted at Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport, Patna on Wednesday. It lasted from 15:39 to 16:45, with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of the airport’s contingency planning, security preparedness and coordination between various agencies. As part of the exercise, a mock call was made to the service terminal manager to inform him of the presence of explosives in the arrivals area. As per prescribed protocol, Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was immediately activated. Agencies and institutions like Airports Authority of India (AAI), CISF (ASG Patna Airport), four scheduled airline operators, airport police station, special branch of state police (including BDDS), ATS unit of state police (including BDDS), SIB Patna and medical services (Paras HMRI) showed active participation in the exercise. Suspicious bag found, BDDS team neutralized it. During the exercise, BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad) teams from both ASG and State Police began investigating the suspicious bag with the help of high-tech equipment and sniffer dogs. During scanning, positive confirmation of possible explosives was found in the bag. After this, the technical team neutralized the dummy bomb and destroyed it safely in the designated cooling pit. The exercise had active participation from all agencies involved, strongly demonstrating the security preparedness of the airport and their joint ability to deal with potential emergencies.
