Terra Drone Indonesia boss arrested in South Jakarta apartment

Police reveal systemic mismanagement of Terra Drone, causes deadly fire

Jakarta – The Terra Drone building fire in Central Jakarta (Jakpus) was caused by a burning lithium polymer (LiPo) drone battery. The police revealed that there was a systemic management error behind this unfortunate incident. The fatal fire started in the room where the drone batteries were stored. The results of the inspection revealed that Terra Drone employees did not understand how to manage drone batteries. “Of all the employees we checked, they generally did not understand, even if it was just a brief explanation, but there was nothing written and they did not understand how to manage the goods, the batteries, in that room mixed with damaged batteries, there were batteries and so on, it all came together,” said Susatyo Purnomo Condro, head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police (212/12, Friday). Susatyo said it was a systemic error in this case. “So from our perspective it’s a systemic error rather than management,” he said. Apart from that, the president director of PT Terra Drone Indonesia, Michael Wisnu Wardhana, knows very well the risks of LiPo batteries. However, he is suspected of being negligent which led to the fatal vehicle accident. “This means that as the Director he knows exactly the risk that LiPo batteries can easily catch fire, but still allows conditions without SOPs and without protection,” he said. For information, the fire took place on Tuesday (12/09) afternoon. The fire started in the inventory room on the 1st floor where lithium polymer (LiPo) type drone batteries were stored. Batteries that have already been damaged are stored in a pile in that room. The battery then fell and a spark appeared and grabbed a usable battery that was also stored in the room. The fire then grew and spread to other floors of the building. Currently, the Chief Director (Dirut) of PT Terra Drone Indonesia, Michael Wisnu Wardhana, has been named as a suspect and detained. He was charged with section 187 of the Penal Code and/or Section 188 of the Penal Code and/or Section 359 of the Penal Code. A series of violations at the Terra Drone building Police have revealed a number of security violations at the Terra Drone building in Central Jakarta, which caught fire and resulted in the death of 22 people. The building has no fire protection and there are no evacuation routes. “There are no emergency doors, no smoke sensors, no fire protection system, no evacuation routes, the building has an IMB (building construction permit) and SLF (certificate of fitness) for offices but is also used as a storage area or warehouse,” said Susatyo. As a result of the investigation, driving violations were also found. Susatyo said there is no separation between damaged, used and healthy battery storage in the building. “The storage room is narrow 2×2 meters without ventilation, without fire protection. Then the generator with the potential for heat is in the same area,” he said. (wnv/yangs)
