People have to face traffic jams for hours to cross many roads. As winter progresses, driving in fog becomes a problem for drivers. In such a situation, Jagran Correspondent Mohammad Saqib had a special conversation with Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic Police, about what preparations are being made by the traffic police and what campaigns are being conducted regarding the problem of traffic jams and people’s safety. The traffic police keep an eye on these illegal cuts all the time because there is a danger of accidents due to these illegal cuts. Question: Jugaad vehicles are overloaded and this also increases accidents. What is being done about this? Answer: A special drive is conducted against Jugaad vehicles and overloaded vehicle drivers. Traffic policemen are constantly impounding such vehicles. For this, trips are carried out every day. Question: There is no zebra crossing in many places, traffic signals are also poor, this also creates problems. What is the solution to this? How many places are there where signals have been newly installed or repaired? Answer: Wherever traffic signals are found faulty, a WhatsApp group called ‘Signal Group’ has been formed, in which all the traffic inspectors are connected. As soon as information about a traffic signal malfunction is sent to the group, it is immediately corrected by the engineer. Apart from this, recording of timing of signals is also done from the traffic headquarters in Todapur. Question: What preparations have the traffic police made regarding fog, what kind of awareness campaigns are being conducted as well as what steps are being taken to ensure that road accidents do not occur as a result of fog? Answer: With the increase in fog, power vests, light bars and shoulder lights are being fitted to the police personnel deployed on the roads, so that the drivers will not face any problem in case of reduced visibility. Lighting has also been arranged on the barricades and forced painting is done on the roads. At the same time, traffic policemen conduct campaigns in schools, colleges and roads from time to time to make people aware. Question: There are still black spots and dark spots in many places. How will it be resolved? Answer: This is being worked on together with all the agencies from this month. So far, 62 hotspots have been selected. On this, the traffic police in collaboration with all the institutions such as PWD, Municipal Corporation and Transport Department etc. are constantly working on the deficiencies that are found. Question: There are severe traffic jams in many places. Just look at the ITO red light, it’s the busiest intersection. Apart from this there are many places. What is their solution? Answer: On many routes, when people leave from office in the morning and evening, the pressure of vehicles on the roads increases. In such a situation, evening signals are switched off on heavily congested routes and operated in manual mode. Apart from this, the deployment of more policemen on jammed routes is being increased.
