Guwahati, November 26 (IANS). South Africa defeated India by 408 runs in the Test match played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. This is India’s biggest defeat in terms of Test runs. South Africa won the Guwahati Test and won the series 0-2. South Africa won by 30 runs in the first Test played in Kolkata. South Africa won the Test series in India after 25 years. The last time South Africa defeated India was 0-2 in a 2-Test series in 1999-2000. In this series, South Africa’s captain was Hansie Cronje, while India’s captain was Sachin Tendulkar. Temba Bavuma became the second South African captain after Hansie Cronje to win a Test series in India. With the win in the Guwahati Test, Temba Bavuma’s record of not losing a Test as captain also remained intact. Talking about the Guwahati Test, after winning the toss and batting first, South Africa scored 489 runs with the help of Senuran Muthusamy’s 109 runs and Marco Jansen’s 93 runs. For India, Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Siraj took 2 wickets each. The Indian team were all out for 201 runs in the first innings and trailed by 288 runs. For South Africa, Marco Jansen took 6 wickets, Simon Harmer 3 wickets and Keshav Maharaj 1 wicket. South Africa declared the second innings at 260 runs for 5 wickets and based on the lead of 288 runs in the first innings, India were given a target of 549 runs. Bundled out for 140, the Indian team suffered its biggest defeat in Test cricket history by a margin of 408 runs. In the second innings, Simon Harmer took 6 wickets for 37 runs for South Africa.
