Jakarta – Momentum to commemorate the 77th World Human Rights Day, Indonesia emphasizes its ambition to go further on the global stage. Minister of Human Rights (HAM) Natalius Pigai stated that Indonesia is now preparing to take the position of President of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council. We will seize the president of the UN Human Rights Council,” he stressed. He said diplomatic steps were taken together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of Bappenas. Professor Makarim Wibisono, senior diplomat and former president of the UN Human Rights Council, was also involved in the international approach process. Pigai believes that the leadership of the UN Human Rights Council will pave the way for Indonesia to push for new human rights conventions that have never been born in the international system, ranging from human rights and corruption, human rights and the environment, to human rights in the electoral process. “We can produce many conventions. This is an opportunity to change the world order,” he said.
