The government should buy maize at Rs 3000, demanded Nakulnath in Chhindwara

Last Updated: 02 Dec 2025, 23:11 IST In the huge farmers’ protest in front of the agricultural produce market in Chhindwara, former MP Nakulnath said that the MSP of maize crop is Rs 2400 but Rs 900-1500 is available in the market. He demanded a price of Rs 3000 per quintal and warned that if the purchase was not made, an agitation would be launched in the entire Madhya Pradesh. Former MP Nakul Nath became active again in Chhindwara. Chhindwara. Former MP Nakulnath said during the “Save Farmers Movement” that farmers are demanding their rights, but farmers are not getting the right price for their crops. Maize is being sold in the market at Rs 900-1500 per quintal, while the Center has announced a support price (MSP) of Rs 2400 per quintal. Nakulnath, who came among the farmers gathered in front of the Kusmeli agricultural produce market of the district, said that the farmers should get the right price. At the moment the situation is such that they are not even heard. Nakulnath in his speech said when maize was sown in the fields, the cost including seed, fertilizer and labor was high. Now the farmers’ prices to sell in the market have dropped so much that “they can’t even get a bottle of water by selling one kilo of maize”. He demanded that the price should be increased to Rs 3000 per quintal in view of the increased cost after Covid-19. Nakulnath warned that if maize is not bought at MSP, the Congress is ready to start an agitation in the entire Madhya Pradesh. Even after the crop is sold, the family is unable to cover its expenses. Farmers in the agricultural produce market say that the cost of each acre, including field cost, seed, fertilizer, labor etc., has increased significantly. But the price held in the market does not give them even half of that cost. This compulsion forces farmers to sell their crops and that too at the lowest price. Farmer Rajesh Vishwakarma said that after selling the maize crop, the family is unable to meet its expenses. There are announcements of support price, but the situation in the market is different. He said, “The center is saying Rs 2400 but the market bid is giving Rs 900, this is an open fraud on the farmer.” Former MP Nakul Nath said that the central government had declared a support price of Rs 2400 per quintal. He questioned when BJP will start actual procurement. Farmers say that the price in the market is Rs 900-1500. Nakulnath demanded that the government immediately start purchasing at MSP, and the minimum price of maize should be made Rs 3000 per quintal. At that time the price of maize was Rs 2500 per quintal. Nakulnath said in his speech that when there was a Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, it was the first to start waiving the loans of farmers. During Kamal Nath’s government, Corn Festival was also organized in Chhindwara and Chhindwara got the title of Corn City. At that time the price of maize was Rs 2500 per quintal. Now the situation has changed and inflation is increasing in everything but the prices of farmers’ products are falling.
