New Delhi, November 26 (IANS). Every year, 26 November is celebrated as ‘Constitution Day’ in the country. On Wednesday, on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Constitution of India, many leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wished the countrymen through social media. The tradition of celebrating ‘Constitution Day’ started in the year 2015 after the arrival of the Narendra Modi government at the centre. How active and vigilant PM Modi was towards the Constitution was seen during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. An anecdote related to Prime Minister Modi was shared on the social media platform ‘X’ called ‘Modi Archive’, in which it was told how since the early days he has been following the ideals of the creator of the Constitution, Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, follows. It was told in the post that in 2010, India celebrated the 60th anniversary of its Constitution. At that time Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He led the ‘Samvidhan Gaurav Yatra’, which was a unique and memorable tribute to the Constitution. Along with this, some old photos related to this visit of PM Modi were also shared in the post. ‘Modi archive’ In honor of the Constitution, its copy has been placed atop a decorated elephant. A large replica was placed in a specially designed howda (a traditional hall) in which Narendra Modi, state ministers and about 15,000 people walked with the elephant. The post further informed that what made this procession even more interesting was its historical inspiration. It was inspired by the age-old tradition during the reign of King Siddharaja in Patan, when Acharya Hemchandra’s Sanskrit grammar book was carried on the streets on an elephant. The then Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Samvidhan Gaurav Yatra’ was an attempt in the same spirit to give the Constitution its rightful place in the collective consciousness of India. It was said in the ‘Modi Archive’ post that ‘Samvidhan Gaurav Yatra’ was an event just like the way we celebrate ‘Constitution Day’ today, it was not just a formal event. It was a call to action. Narendra Modi’s objective was clear, “to raise awareness of the immense importance of the Constitution, to educate citizens about its core values, and to reaffirm the country’s commitment to its principles.” –IANS SK/ABM Share this story Tags
