(Pradita Utama/detikcom) “He should have hit the brake when he wanted to stop, but he was wrong, (instead) hit the gas pedal,” North Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Commissioner Ongkoseno Grandiarso Sukahar said at the North Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Friday (12/12). Avoid residents, then turn to SD AI, who is said to be in a state of panic, immediately avoid the crowd on the road. He spontaneously drove the car into the school. “Because he panicked, he finally couldn’t control it anymore, so he kept trying to turn it to the left (toward the school),” explains Ongkoseno. “Because of his considerations, he felt that there were many people in front of him. He tried to turn as little as possible to the left so that he could avoid the crowd,” he continued. However, AI’s choice caused him to break through the school fence and directly hit the teacher and a number of students who were currently conducting literacy activities on the school field. Car speed 19 km/h. The police also revealed the speed of AI’s car at the time of the incident. The police explained that the car’s speed was 19 kilometers per hour. “Up to the stop point, the results of the investigation of Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) were 19.7 km per hour,” Deputy Head of Traffic for North Jakarta Metro Police AKP Danu Sukmo Prakoso told journalists at North Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters, Friday (12/12). CCTV footage captured a car smashing through a primary school fence in Cilincing and hitting students sitting in the field. (Photo: Social Media) Danu revealed that from the analysis results, there were braking efforts made by the driver. He said there were traces of braking at the scene. “In terms of braking efforts, the subject said that he applied braking efforts until he stopped at the point of impact. There were tracks, brake tracks,” Danu said. Police: Driver did not rest In this case, AI was named by the police as a suspect because he was considered negligent. North Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Erick Frendriz explained that the police discovered the fact that AI only went to sleep at 04:00 WIB and immediately took the car at 05:30 WIB. “There is one possible motive that could be the reason why this happened, namely we said that before the incident the suspect was only sleeping around 4 in the morning,” Erick explained on the same occasion. “Then, at 05.30 WIB, the suspect left for SPPG to drive the SPPG partner’s car, so he had less rest time. This may be what is important to us, that at the time of this incident, the suspect was in a condition unfit to drive a vehicle,” he continued. Then Erick said that the police ran a urine test on AI with the results showing negative. In this way, AI’s lack of rest is considered a factor in negligence that caused the collision. “Then we also did a urine test with negative results. Then we also did an alcohol test at the Traffic Police, the results were also negative,” Erick said. Condition of car confirmed as adequate The police checked the condition of the car used by AI at the time of the incident. Police confirmed that the car was in roadworthy condition. “In the current incident, investigations were therefore carried out to ensure that the vehicle is fit for use,” said Ongkoseno. The vehicle fitness test was carried out by the Department of Transport (Dishub). Head of the Motor Vehicle Test Implementation Unit (Kasatpel UP PKB) Cilincing, Dardi Wahyudi, explained the braking function of a car in good condition. “Yesterday we performed a physical inspection or road test on the vehicle. From the braking system we could see from the brake pedal, to the reservoir tank for brake fluid, there was still no shortage,” explained Dardi. “For the channels, the brakes are disc front, drum rear. So there are no leaks in the hoses, either front right-left, rear right-left. So the condition of the vehicle for the braking system is good. As for the condition of the parking brake, we also try to keep it in good condition,” he said. (fca/rfs)
