Neeraj was fearless and full of patriotic spirit from childhood. Born in Manoharpura village Buhana subdivision of Jhunjhunu district, Neeraj Kumar was considered courageous and fearless since childhood. His mother’s name is Vinod Devi. Since his school days his mind was set on adventure and service to the country. Along with his studies, a dream grew in him to protect the country by wearing the uniform of the Indian Army. To realize this dream, he worked hard and finally joined the country’s army and brought honor to his village. Encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir: Neeraj Kumar was posted in 34th Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in Jammu and Kashmir. That day of June 20, 2020 became the most important moment of his life. Information was received about terrorists hiding in Kulgam district and a major operation was launched. The situation was very sensitive, the terrorists tried to escape by using civilians as shields. Neeraj’s steps did not even waver in the hail of bullets. He remained patient, waited for the right opportunity and as soon as he noticed a flaw in the terrorists’ actions, Neeraj fired accurately and killed the dangerous Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Tayyab instantly. It was a huge success for the Indian Army as Tayyab had long been included in the hit list of security forces. Shot and still fighting with the enemy. After killing the first terrorist, the second terrorist got scared and started shooting intensely at Neeraj from close range. Bullets were fired, blood started flowing, but Neeraj did not leave his position. With surprising courage, he also injured the terrorist and rendered useless his state-of-the-art M-4 assault rifle. Due to his bravery, a major terrorist attack in the area was avoided and the lives of civilians were also safe. Even in the midst of crisis, pain and danger to his life, Neeraj’s courage did not break at all.
