Kolkata, November 30 (IANS). Human skeletons buried under the ground were found during the construction of a new house in Ashoknagar area of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Sunday. The discovery of the skeleton caused a stir in the surrounding area, after which the police became active regarding this matter. According to the police, while digging the foundation of the house, the workers came across the skeleton, due to which a sensation spread in the area and the local people gathered at the spot. The police were informed about the incident. This incident happened near Kalyangarh market under Ashoknagar police station. Workers first found two skulls and as the excavation continued, other skeletons were recovered. The area was immediately cordoned off. Police officials, including Ashoknagar police station in-charge Chintamani Naskar, reached the spot. After preliminary investigation, the police declared the skeletons to be quite old. However, their exact ages will only be known after formal examination and examination of samples by forensic experts. The skeletons were sent for examination. Local resident Ashish Mukherjee told reporters that the land where the skeletons were found belonged to his family. He said that I don’t know anything about this. Earlier our uncle Bijan Mukherjee’s house was here. Today the engineers called us and showed us the skull and bones. It appears that the skeleton is very old. Ashish’s family claimed to have lived in that area of Ashoknagar since before the country’s independence. Ashish’s wife Moushumi said that this house was closed since the death of my uncle-in-law and his wife in 2013. Sometimes my uncle and father-in-law’s daughters came to stay. Now after the distribution of land, new houses are being built. The skull and bones were found here. Trinamool’s Ashoknagar MP Narayan Goswami claimed that the skeleton was found under the bedroom floor of the house of former CPI(M) member Bijan Mukherjee in Kalyangarh, ward no. 7 of Ashoknagar was found. He was once synonymous with terror in Ashoknagar and Howrah areas. He dominated this area in the eighties. The Trinamool leader claimed that a decomposed body was recovered from a water tank in the area in 2002. He further said that I do not know how many more skeletons will be found from Bijan’s house. These could be the dead bodies of Congress workers of that time. That shameful history of CPI(M) is exposed today. There was no official response from CPI(M) to Trinamool Congress’ allegations. –IANS MS/ABM Share this story Tags
