Every day thousands of devotees come to the holy Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar to take a dip in the Ganga and perform aarti. Apart from their devotion and faith, however, we often see sights that leave people in awe. Recently, a video has gone viral on social media, in which women are seen fighting among themselves over Har Ki Pauri. According to media reports, this incident happened on Wednesday. The fight between the women escalated into a brawl. A video of the incident quickly went online, clearly showing some women kicking, punching and punching each other. The crowd of spectators stood as silent spectators, while some people recorded the entire incident on their mobile phones. The video also shows two women dragging and beating a third woman, when another woman arrives and tries to stop the fight. Some passers-by and devotees also intervene before the situation is resolved. There was an atmosphere of strife and commotion as every woman in the race to inoculate the devotees turned Paidi into a battlefield. On receiving information, a police team reached the spot and took the quarreling women to the police station. Strict action was taken against the women and they were given a stern warning not to behave like this in the future. The police also asked for a written apology from both parties. The women accepted their mistake and promised not to behave like this in the future. Local people say that such incidents at a religious place like Har Ki Pauri have hurt the sentiments of the devotees. Many devotees come with their families for aarti or bath, and the atmosphere of fighting and commotion mars the dignity of the place. Some people have demanded that the administration increase security and surveillance in the Har Ki Pauri area to prevent such disputes in the future. Watch the video here. Har Ki Pauri Police Station also said that they will take strict action in such cases. CCTV surveillance will be increased in the area, and police officers will monitor the crowd during regular patrols. Local merchants and priests were also advised to report any disputes to the police immediately and not to try to resolve them on their own.
