The 2nd Annual Antonyo Awards announced a postponement for this year’s ceremony Previously announced For October 10 at the Apollo -Theater In Harlem. A new date and a new name for the awards will be announced later.
The awards this year offered 29 competitive categories and five honorary categories, along with performances and gas appearances to recognize black theater artists for their work during the New York City Theater season in 2020. According to Persnotes, “the ambitious timeline set for production did not leave enough time for fundraising, creative development and community involvement. Delay will not only develop and support the show further, but also to regroup and regroup itself.”
In addition to the postponed awards, the awards will also become a re -emot. “The awards previously known as the Antonyos will ask for the support of the entire theater community in the renaming effort.”
Voting for the nominees of this year open on October 10 to Antonyoawards.comwith a streamed ceremony for winners held later.
This year’s nominees were selected by a committee of industry professionals, including Alaina Newell, Ayanna prescodBrittani Samuel, Juan Michael Porter II, Eric emauniDrew Shade, Judith Lovell, and Cody Renard Richard. This year’s nominees for the best game include Lynn Nottage’s Clyde’sDominique Moriseau’s Confederate, Erika Dickerson-Depenza‘ Cullud WattahJocelyn Bioh’s Nollywood Dreams, Aleshea Harris‘ On SugarlandKeenan Scott IIs Thoughts of a colored manand Aleshea Harris’ What to send up when it goes off. Nominated for the best musical is Black no more;; Caroline, or change;; Intimate clothes;; MJ: The Musical;; Paradise Square;; and A strange loop.
Honors who were previously announced Leslie uggams for an award for lifelong achievements; Esco Jouléy for the Welcome Award or the Kyle Jean-Baptist Award; The Mansa ra for the Langston Hughes Award; Erika Dickerson-Depenza, for the Lorraine HansBerry Award; and Cleveland, Ohio’s Karamu house for the doors of the theater, is an Open award or the Dr. Barbara Ann Tar Award.
