Amravati, October 12 (IANS). The Andhra Pradesh government has put together a special investigative team (SIT) to investigate the Mulakacheruvu false drink case. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced it. Chief Minister Naidu said that the SIT will be led by the Eluru Range Police Inspector GVG Ashok Kumar. Sit members are IPS officials Rahul Dev Verma, Malika Garg and K. Chakraborty. An expert on the excise department will also be a member of the SIT. The chief minister said at a press conference that the sitting would investigate the matter thoroughly. He said that 23 accused were identified in this case and that 16 of them were arrested, including chief accused Janardhan. Chandrababu Naidu said he also immediately suspended a Telugu Desam (TDP) leader because of his alleged role in the case. The chief minister made it clear that the government would act strictly against the accused, regardless of their political commitment, and there was no question of protecting anyone trying to escape under political coverage. He said that it is said that the roots of false drinks are in Africa, and that some people also conspire to adopt the same method in Andhra Pradesh. He claimed that the TDP leader was the first to expose the false liquor scandal in Mulakacheruvu. The chief minister expressed surprise that some parties demanded a CBI investigation into the false beverage case to avoid the issue. He said their brands were promoted during the previous government and that the entire system was legitimized based on ownership of stores, transport and distilleries. He said that marijuana cultivation is a commercial crop and that the drug threat increased during 2019-24. Those who make crimes in the name of politics are now spreading false propaganda on false drinks and blame the government. Naidu said that action would be taken against those who spread false propaganda. He said that despite the death of 27 people in Jangareddygudem, the previous government did not respond and that he had now accused the state government of a false campaign. The Chief Minister also gave a strict warning to the employees and officers of the Excise Department to work by law, otherwise they would have to act for their offenses.
