Jakarta – Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Sugiono said that President Prabowo Subianto considers Brazil a strategic partner. He said that Prabowo would form a “new special relationship” between Indonesia and Brazil. Sugiono initially said that Prabowo met Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva three times. According to him, Prabowo is very inspired by Lula’s leadership in Brazil, including a program similar to Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) that has been running there for a long time. “From these meetings and interactions, both of them have the same views on efforts to improve people’s welfare. In fact, the president said earlier that he learned a lot from Brazil regarding the Free Nutritious Meal program implemented in Indonesia. So these factors then strengthen relations between the two countries,” Sugiono told journalists at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (203/50) said. The new special relationship was called the New Special Relationship. “And earlier, the president also said that he would form a relationship that he called a new special relationship between Indonesia and Brazil,” he said. Sugiono then spoke about Prabowo’s breakthrough which would include Portuguese in the learning curriculum in schools. According to him, this highlights that Brazil has a very important position for Indonesia. “That’s why he said earlier that there will be Portuguese language lessons because communication is something important to improve cooperation. For this reason, he asked to include Portuguese in the education curriculum,” he said. It is known that this breakthrough was conveyed by Prabowo during a bilateral meeting with President Lula and delegates from the two countries at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta. Prabowo said he would include Portuguese as one of the priority languages to be studied in schools. “I am sure that we will make better achievements in the future. As proof that we consider Brazil very important, I have decided that Portuguese will be one of the priority languages for Indonesian educational disciplines,” Prabowo said at the Palace on Thursday (23/10).
