The alleged suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar sent shock waves over Haryana and Chandigarh, with the government of Haryana now suspending a senior police officer considered in Kumar’s suicide letter. In the midst of this, Nayab Singh Sainin, chief minister of Haryana, broke his silence on the issue. At a bjp event in the state’s panchkula, saini was hearing saying, “… this is an unfortunate incident. The family has demanded justice. We have assured them that there will be a thorough inquiry. Action will be taken against the accused … of his speech right here: Amneet P Kumar, the wife of the deceased police official and herself a senior ias officer, was with the Chief Minister as a part of a latter led in Japan when the news of her husband’s death broke. Although it is the first public remark of Sainin about Kumar’s death, he visited the official home of the recent widow officer in Chandigarh’s sector 24 on Thursday and offered condolences to the grieving family. Sainin’s remarks also come to the aftermath of the opposition leaders who are due to the “caste-based discrimination” BJP government in both Haryana and the center on the alleged suicide of Kumar, which they view. Y Puran Kumar, 52, an Indian Police Service (IPS) of 2001, was found on Tuesday with a gunshot wound in a room in the basement of his sector 11 house. In a note he allegedly left behind, Kumar called many ‘senior officers’ and details ‘spiritual harassment’ and ‘humiliation’ that he has faced over the past few years, according to the sources that Pti spoke to. What the opposition said that the opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while demanding an impartial inquiry into the ‘suicide case’, said that no guilty should be spared and that no innocent damage should be done. It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure justice in this case, he said, adding that the suicide of such a senior police officer is a tragic incident. “This incident has shaken the entire state. If such a senior police officer is not safe today, one can suggest the situation of ordinary citizens,” the former chief minister said in a statement. Congress MP Kumari Selja said the suicide of a Dalit IPS officer in Haryana is an extremely tragic, worrying and deep painful matter. A fair, independent and high level investigation into the entire incident is essential to ensure the most stringent action against the culprits, the former Union Minister said. “It is not just a personal tragedy, but a heinous look at the institutional insensitivity and caste-based discrimination that constantly deepened under the BJP rule,” Selja placed on X in Hindi. “Since the year 2020, which constantly endures ongoing casteistic insults, spiritual harassment and injustice, an officer eventually had to lose his life – it emphasizes the administrative failure of the BJP government and its indifference to social justice,” she said. Randeep Singh Surjewala, secretary of the congress, said the alleged suicide of Haryana’s senior Dalit IPS officer is shocking, tragic and heartbreaking. “My condolences to the family,” he placed on X in Hindi. “Is the Haryana BJP government system so weak or harmed that even a Dalit IPS officer of the rank of ADGP is denied a trial or justice? This is a bitter truth against which Dalit officers and staff members were discriminated against, marginalized and humiliated,” Surjewala claimed. “I still remember how a senior minister in the BJP government publicly humiliated a female IPS officer,” he said in his post. Referring to the alleged suicide of the IPS officer, Surjewala said that “although chief minister of Nayab Sainin maintained silence, it is hoped that the Chandigarh administration and the (Union) domestic ministry will listen to the wife of the IAS officer of Y Puran Kumar and give him ready”. With Sainin finally talking about the issue, it still has to be seen whether the opposition is now raising its attacks on the CM as the investigation is progressing.
