New -Delhi, September 14 (IANS). The last date for submitting income tax returns, that is, ITR, is September 15th. The false news on the extension of the last date for filling ITR is viral on social media, which was denied by the Income Tax Department. What the false news about the expansion of the date of submission of the ITR, the income tax section posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and said that a fake news was underway, saying that the last date for the submission of ITR (which was originally 31.07.2025 and expanded to 15.09.09.2025) was expanded to 30.09.2025. The Income Tax Division has made it clear that the last date for the submission of ITR will be on September 15. The income tax division advised taxpayers to rely on the official ‘X’ update only. In the Viral False Letter on social media, the CBDT expanded the last date for the submission of ITRs. Structural and content amendments were made in the ITR informed for the assessment year 2025-26, which aims to simplify the compliance, increase transparency and enable accurate reporting. These changes require extra time for system development, integration and testing of related tools. In addition, credits generated from TDS details to be submitted by May 31 will begin to appear in early June, which will limit the effective period of submission returns in the absence of such expansion. The false letter also said that the Central Council of Direct Tax (CBDT) has decided to extend the last date for the comprehensive changes made in the reported ITR and the time required for the Preparations on the Income Tax Rescue (ITR) and the time required for the Revenue Tax System (ITR) and the requirement. To facilitate a smooth and convenient submission experience for taxpayers, it was decided that the last date for the submission of ITR, which was originally September 15, was expanded to September 30.
