Kiran Navgire created history, scored the fastest century in Women’s T20

Nagpur, October 17 (IANS). Indian team and Maharashtra opener Kiran Navgire created history. Navgire achieved the record of the fastest century in Women’s T20. Navgire scored a century in 34 balls in the Women’s T20 Trophy on Friday. Navgire scored a century in 34 balls in the Women’s T20 Trophy on Friday and played a historic innings of 106 runs in 35 balls. Navgire’s century is the only women’s T20 century with a strike rate of more than 300. Thanks to this innings, Maharashtra defeated Punjab eight overs earlier in Nagpur. Earlier, the record for the fastest century in Women’s T20 was held by New Zealand’s Sophie Devine. Devine scored a 36-ball century for Wellington against Otago in January 2021. In that innings, Divine scored an unbeaten 108 runs in 38 balls. Punjab bowlers looked quite ordinary and helpless in front of Navgire. Navgire’s aggressiveness can be gauged by the fact that he made an unbeaten partnership of 103 runs with Mukta Nagre for the second wicket. Mukta had only 6 runs in this. Navgire hit 14 fours and seven sixes in his innings. Hailing from Mire in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, about 200 km southeast of Pune, Navgire first grabbed everyone’s attention during the 2022 edition of the Women’s T20 Trophy when she hit 35 sixes for Nagaland. She also became the first Indian to score more than 150 in a Women’s T20 match when she scored 162 runs in 76 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. The ability to hit big shots has given Navgire a chance to make his debut for India against England at Chester-Lee-Street in 2022. She has not been given a place in the national team since the Asian Women’s Cup was played in October 2022. She played six matches for India. She plays for UP Warriors in the Women’s Premier League and has scored 419 runs in 24 innings in three seasons. Navgire wants to be like former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni in future. –IANS PAK Share this story Tags
