Jakarta – The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, opened the Serumpun Malaysian Cultural Week held in Pekanbaru as part of the 68th anniversary of the province of Riau, Friday (8/8). In his remarks, Fadli Zon emphasizes the importance of this performance as a momentum in promoting culture to foreigners. “I appreciate the provincial government of Riau and all cultural actors involved in this event. The cultural culture week as a cultural conservation opportunity is expected to be a place to make the Malay culture better known by the younger generation, the wider community, even the world,” Fadli said in his statement, Saturday (9/8/2025). He said Riau was not only the location of the event, but the heart of Malaysian civilization that lived centuries. According to him, Riau is the birthplace of Malay, which then developed into Indonesian. At the event, he also announced the plan to set up the Technical Implementation Unit of the Culture Conservation Center (Ltd) in Riau. During this time, the Riau region is still included in the coverage of Ltd region IV in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands. Later, Ltd Riau will focus on the protection, development and utilization of cultural heritage and the purpose of cultural promotion in Riau. The Serumpun Malaysian cultural week took place on August 7-10, 2025. Various activities were held, ranging from cultural exhibitions, traditional arts, to the leading MSME exhibitions of Riau. Visitors can also see the Crown Exhibition and the private collection of Sultan Siak SRI Indrapura, which has been on display at the Indonesian National Museum in Riau for more than 80 years. The event, which was centered on Jalan Sultan Syarif Kasim, Pekanbaru, is expected to be a reminder of the glory of Riau history, as well as promoting a sense of cultural love for the younger generation. Meanwhile, the governor of Riau -Governor Abdul Wahid hopes this event can strengthen the relationship of CUMPRs and be passed on to the next generation. “Hopefully this event can show the face of creativity, tourism, to the culture that increases the Riau economy and its environment,” he said.
