Microsoft look further than Openai, add support for Anthropic’s AI models in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft has announced that he is bringing Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.2 models to Microsoft 365 Copilot with the Openai models. Meanwhile, Microsoft Copilot Studio and researchers users will also have access to Anthropic’s AI models. The Redmond -based company says that the addition of Claude Family of Models is aimed at allowing customs to access the best AI innovations from across the industry. Charles Lamanna, president, business and industry of Microsoft’s Copilot team, while explaining the new move in a blog post, said: “Copilot will continue to be driven by Openai’s latest models, and now our clients will have the flexibility to use anthropic models – to start in researcher in Microsoft Copilot Studio.” “The addition of Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 promotes our dedication to bringing the best AI innovation from all over the industry to Microsoft 365 Copilot, set for work and adapted for your business needs.” He added that Microsoft’s researcher agent can also use Claude Opus 4.1, except on Openai’s reasoning models. Users can click on the ‘Try Claude’ icon on the Microsoft 365 Copilot app to access the anthropic model. After choosing to use Claude Opus 4.1, users can easily link between Openai and anthropic models. Meanwhile, Microsoft Copilot Studio will use the option to “even mix which models are used for specialized tasks of Anthropic, Openai or any of the models in the Azure model catalog.” The new agreement between Microsoft and Anthropic emerged shortly after a report from The Verge revealed that technical giant Claue models began to benefit GitHub Copilot Paid users. Reportedly, the company said its own developers to use Claude Sonnet 4 in recent moths. While Microsoft was the primary supporter of the Chatgpt manufacturer Openai, the company slowly but surely tried to reduce its dependence on the start.
