Minister of Education and Center for meeting with the discussion of the Constitutional Court’s decision on the Free Primary School next week

Jakarta – Minister of Basic Education and Mental (Minister of Education) Abdul Mu’ti said he would hold a meeting to discuss the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the Primary School Education (SD) and Free Junior High School (SMP). The meeting will be held next week. “I don’t know yet, the meeting (MK’s decision) will be next week,” Abdul Mu’ti said after he launched the Center for Impacful Innovation (CII) of Muhammadiyah University (UM) Surabaya, reported by Detikjatim, Wednesday (11/6/2025). Mu’ti asked the public to wait for the official announcement of the government. Especially related to free schools at high schools and junior high schools, such as the decision of the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court granted the judicial tested lawsuit of the legal number 2003 on the national education system. The Constitutional Court ordered the government to eliminate the education of compulsory education for nine years in private schools. In the ruling, the Constitutional Court said that primary school and junior high school education should be held without fees or free at public or private schools. The decision, begins with the application for section 34 paragraph (2) of the National Education System Law (Sisdiknas) submitted by the Indonesian Education Monitoring Network (JPPI).
