Mumbai: Rear Admiral Shantanu Jha, NM takes command of Maharashtra Naval Area

Mumbai, October 18 (IANS). Rear Admiral Shantanu Jha, NM, a senior Indian naval officer, took over the command of Maharashtra Naval Area (FOM) on Friday. He assumed the charge from Rear Admiral Anil Jaggi at a formal parade ceremony held at INS Kunjali, Mumbai. Rear Admiral Shantanu Jha had an illustrious career in the Navy spanning three decades. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 July 1993. A graduate of the National Defense Academy (NDA), Shantanu Jha is an expert in navigation and guidance. During his career, he sailed six of the Navy’s flagship frigates and destroyers, as well as the aircraft carrier INS Viraat. He also served as Executive Officer on the prestigious INS Vikramaditya. His command experience at sea includes commanding ships such as INS Nishank, INS Kora and INS Sahyadri. During staff assignments, he held various important posts at Naval Headquarters in New Delhi. These include positions such as Joint Director (Personnel), Naval Assistant to Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Commodore (Foreign Cooperation) and Commodore (Strategy, Concepts and Transformation). In addition, he also served as India’s Naval Attaché at the Indian Embassy in Tehran (Iran). Rear Admiral Jha is a graduate of the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington and the Royal College of Defense Studies, London. He holds a Masters in Defense Studies from the University of Madras and a Masters in International Security and Strategy from King’s College, London. He received many honors during his illustrious career. He is a recipient of the prestigious ‘Nausena Medal’ and has also received citation four times by the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Commander-in-Chief. Rear Admiral Jha was appointed as the Chief Staff Officer (Operations), Eastern Naval Command after being promoted to flag rank on 15 January 2024.
