A new twist has come in the alleged gang-rape case in Durgapur, West Bengal. The police arrested the victim’s friend on Tuesday evening. So far, six people have been arrested in this case. The police claim that the victim is not gang-raped, while the family claims gang-rape from the beginning. After this incident there were massive protests across the country. Now this allegation of the police has started a new debate. A medical student was gang-raped in Durgapur on Friday night. The victim is a resident of Balasore, Odisha and was studying in the second year of MBBS. The student went out to dinner with her classmates on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. As he was returning, three people stopped him. They grabbed her cell phone and then took her to the woods in front of the campus, where they gang-raped her. The friend ran away. The friend present with the student ran away during the incident. After this, the student somehow escaped and informed the police about the incident. This incident caused political uproar throughout the country. In many parts of the country, including West Bengal, students protested to demand justice. Acting on the matter, the police first arrested SK Riazuddin, Apu Barui and Firdous SK, while on Monday SK Naseeruddin was arrested. Accused friend arrested Riyazuddin was a guard in the same private medical college where the victim was studying. He was fired from his job five years ago. Police have now arrested the victim’s friend Wasif Ali, who had gone out with her for dinner on the day of the incident. The police were already suspicious of him. He was detained and interrogated for four days, each time giving different answers. That’s why he was arrested on Tuesday after recreating the crime scene. The police have made a big claim in this case, based on the facts that have come to light so far, police officials have rejected the idea of gang rape. They are suspicious of the arrested friend. The victim’s mobile phone was also recovered. The victim’s father claimed his friend molested the student after he went out. The family claimed their daughter was gang-raped.
