Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Brigadier General Ade Ary Syam Indradi revealed that the perpetrators pretended to be Digital Financial Asset Traders (PAKD). They distribute links related to crypto trading offers to the public. “Online fraud mode or online scam. At first glance, the perpetrators distributed offers to the public in the form of infographic Instagram links and spread them on WhatsApp and Telegram,” Ade Ary told journalists on Friday (31/10/2025). “So the perpetrators acted as if they were securities, and acted as if they were PAKD, digital financial asset traders. He offered victims to trade shares, buy and sell shares, offered tricks on methods to win profitably and so on,” he added. The losses suffered by the victims were quite fantastic. From one victim, the loss reached IDR 3 billion. “In the case that was revealed some time ago, the loss of just one victim reached IDR 3,050,000,000,” he said. 2. Distribute Crypto Trading content via social media. The police revealed the method used by the perpetrators. They acted via Instagram accounts, WhatsApp groups and Telegram. The perpetrators claimed to be securities and digital asset traders (PAKD) who managed stock and crypto investments. “As if as a security, he offers the victim to trade shares, buy and sell shares by offering tricks and methods to win, make profit, etc. Then as if he is a PAKD, as if he is a digital financial asset trader offering crypto trading,” he said. Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Police for Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Fian Yunus said they used prepaid cards to act in cyberspace. The suspects began their actions by distributing content related to crypto-trading. “In the past we were told that there is an IG account, then there is a link with an easy way to distribute it through that entity to everyone who has the same access to the application used to commit fraud,” he said. Kasubdit III Ditsiber AKBP Raffles Langgak Putra said the fraud started with advertisements on social media. They ensnare victims to join WhatsApp groups and receive training on trafficking. “It is in the WhatsApp group that victims receive coaching, training, learning about how to read the rise and fall of stocks or digital financial assets,” Raffles said. The perpetrator also predicted the correct stock price, causing the victim to be misled. The suspect then scared the victim that the stock market would crash in June and asked the victim to switch to investing in crypto assets. “So it made the victim believe and made an investment totaling IDR 3,050,000,000,” he said. 3. Claim to be a professor in the United States. The perpetrators claimed to be ‘professors’ who had American certificates. The victim was deceived and believed. “There was an offender there who claimed to be a professor who had qualifications from the United States,” AKBP Raffles said. Under the guise of this ‘professor’, the perpetrators said the stock market crashed in June. The perpetrator then asked the victim to switch to crypto investing until the victim was duped. “The perpetrator also conducted an experiment where when he said that the stocks would go up tomorrow, it turned out that the stocks actually went up the next day, leading the victim to believe that this professor had this expertise,” he said. “Then this professor also said that the stock market will experience a crash in June, so it is advisable to immediately shift investment to digital financial assets or perhaps what is more commonly known as crypto, crypto-assets,” he added. 4. Make profits of hundreds of millions of rupiah. From these fraudulent actions, the perpetrators made profits of up to hundreds of millions of Rupiah. The profit earned starts from IDR 100 to IDR 150 million. “Suspect RJ made a profit of IDR 100 million, suspect LBK made a profit of IDR 120 million, and the female NRA suspect made a profit of IDR 150 million,” explains Raffles. 5. Fake Company ATM The perpetrators also faked ATMs, including the company name. The ATM was used to store crime money. “All the victim’s money was transferred to accounts in the company’s name at various banks,” said Raffles. They forged company names and even ATMs where criminal money was collected. They are looking for nominees or parties whose names they want to use to pretend to be directors of the company as well as for the purposes of creating accounts. “The nominees are stunt people, in other words, they act as if they are the account owner or act as if they are directors at the PT. However, in practice, the accounts and PT documents are not held by them, but by the suspect,” he said. “So these three people are in the first group, the group in Indonesia, which has the task of looking for as many witnesses or people who want to provide their identities to create accounts, create companies or create crypto accounts,” he added. Next, the account used as a place to store the crime money was sent to the syndicate in Malaysia. Raffles said one account is valued at IDR 5 million to IDR 30 million. “All company accounts and crypto accounts will be taken to Malaysia for buying and selling which will be used directly for the perpetrators of the fraud. So these three suspects play a role in the first group with the price per account being IDR 5 million and the price per company IDR 30 million,” he explained. 6. There are 3 groups. The police revealed that there were three groups in this case. The three groups performed in three places, namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia. “There are 3 groups,” said AKBP Raffles. The first syndicate operated in Indonesia, involving suspects RJ, LBK and NRA, who were arrested by Polda Metro Jaya in West Kalimantan. Their role is to look for people whose names they want to use to create accounts where criminal money can be kept. “Indonesian network, looking for nominees or figures from various regions in Indonesia to create individual accounts, PT accounts and crypto wallet accounts. Send mobile phones (including registered SIM card and email), tokens, account books. Courier will take them to Malaysia,” he explained. In addition, the Malaysian group plays a role in holding accounts containing criminal money. They also coordinate directly with other syndicates located in Cambodia. “Arrange delivery routes for all online scam preparation tools to Cambodia. Sell all accounts, both individual, PT, and crypto wallet accounts, to online fraud or online gambling syndicates in Cambodia,” he said. Meanwhile, the Cambodian group is suspected of being the executor who committed fraud against the victims. They also hire people from other countries to get involved in business. “Employing people from other countries as online fraud or online gambling operators. Managing servers to carry out online fraud or online gambling activities using different means with victims from various countries,” he explained. (deck/deck)
