Measles outbreak rises in Israel: Study reveals, ‘Fear of vaccine after Covid is responsible’

Measles outbreak rises in Israel: Study reveals, ‘Fear of vaccine after Covid is responsible’

Tel Aviv, November 26 (IANS). These days, Israel is fighting on two fronts in the health sector. On the one hand, there is a threat of increasing cases of measles, and on the other hand, there is increasing reluctance among people towards the vaccine. The country, which for years maintained a near-perfect record in routine vaccination of its children, has now seen that confidence eroded by the lack of interest in vaccination that has emerged following the Covid-19 pandemic. A Bar-Ilan University study reported a marked decline in uptake of routine vaccines for children in Israel after the pandemic – particularly MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and DPT. Parents who used to vaccinate their children without asking questions are now becoming more cautious, skeptical and in some cases hostile. The research found that 6.6 percent of parents who vaccinated their older child before the pandemic decided not to vaccinate their younger child; This is ‘enough to activate the existing disease’. These results came to light when 11 children died of measles in Israel since May. Most of them are not vaccinated. According to the department, 1,644 cases of infection were reported by the end of October and 577 victims were hospitalized. The study’s researchers found that MMR vaccination of children in Israel has declined by about 3 percent compared to before the pandemic. This change seems small, but experts say that this decrease is very significant for a disease like measles, this too when Israel said that this disease will be completely eradicated. Measles is one of the most contagious diseases in the world—if one person becomes infected, about 90 percent of unvaccinated people in the area can also contract it. Therefore, a decrease in the vaccination rate even in a small group can increase the risk for the whole country. This is why measles is spreading rapidly in some parts of Israel, especially in areas where vaccination rates are already low. The way health guidelines changed frequently during the COVID pandemic, misinformation spread on social media, and many people changed their opinions about the vaccine — it also affected confidence in routine vaccination. Many parents in Israel said that they did not get clear information at the time of Covid vaccines, which forced them to think about general vaccination as well. This changed psychological environment led to ‘waning interest in vaccines’. A situation in which people no longer see vaccines as dangerous, but begin to see them as unnecessary or questionable. This thinking became a direct threat to diseases such as measles. Israel’s health department has repeatedly said two doses of MMR can almost completely prevent measles. Still, communities where anti-vaccine sentiment grew stronger during COVID are now turning away from even routine vaccinations. This decline is not only visible in the data, but in hospitals and clinics – where parents who come to doctors ask more questions than before, are more worried and sometimes want to avoid the vaccine despite understanding the risk of measles. The Times of Israel quoted health experts as saying that it will not be easy to rebuild the trust lost during Covid. Vaccination rates in Israel, especially among urban-religious communities and some migrant groups, were previously lower than the national average; Now the skeptical thinking that arises after Covid has made these areas more sensitive. This rise of measles is not just about a disease, but a warning of a crisis of confidence. Even in countries like Israel, where the health system is considered strong, post-Covid misunderstandings and fear have shaken the confidence built over years in the vaccine. –IANS KR/

Panic due to massive blast in Ranchi’s Doranda College, police have started investigation

Ranchi, November 26 (IANS). A massive blast on Wednesday afternoon caused chaos in the Doranda College campus in Ranchi. As soon as the sound of the explosion was heard in the back part of the college, panic spread among the students and teachers. The lucky thing was that there were no students or staff at the place where the explosion took place. As a result of this explosion, the glass in the bathroom door broke and scattered on the ground. After the incident, the college administration immediately swung into action. The principal immediately informed the Doranda police station about the incident. Doranda Police Station reached the spot and started investigation. Sensitive parts of the campus have been cordoned off. According to police officials, in the initial investigation, such remains were found at the site, which strengthens the possibility of the use of a land-made bomb. However, it is also being investigated whether any explosives were used for the blast or not. Forensic evidence was also collected for this. The college administration said that the incident is serious and a detailed investigation is being conducted. The principal said the footage from CCTV cameras installed on the campus is being carefully examined so that the person who carried out the blast can be identified. Along with this, the security arrangements of the college have been tightened and students have been appealed to remain alert. Police sources said the involvement of mischievous elements in the incident cannot be ruled out. Some suspects are identified and questioned. Officials said it was being clarified whether the purpose of the blast was to create an atmosphere of fear or there was some other intention behind it. The police said that further action will be taken after the investigation report comes. –IANS SNC/ABM Share this story Tags

Taiwan ready with US missile defense system and bumper defense budget, preparations on war footing for possible conflict with China

Taiwan ready with US missile defense system and bumper defense budget, preparations on war footing for possible conflict with China

Taiwan – a small island facing the world’s greatest military threat. China, which considers Taiwan as its part, is constantly increasing its military. Planes, ships and missiles around Taiwan. In this regard, Taiwan is strengthening itself with the help of the US. First came the US missile defense system. Now there is a plan to increase the defense budget. Let us know what US weapons are deployed in Taiwan, what is the budget and what is the threat from China. Chinese threat: Why is Taiwan afraid? China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is the largest army in the world. In 2025, China plans to increase its defense budget by 7.2% to $245 billion (about Rs 20 lakh crore). They constantly threaten to take over Taiwan. How many accidents have occurred involving China-Pakistan fighter jets? Why so much fuss about Tejas? Gray Zone Attack: In April 2025, 27 Chinese aircraft and 9 ships entered Taiwan’s Air Defense Zone (ADIZ). It’s not rust, it’s pressure. Fear of blockade: China may encircle Taiwan. Stop the ships. 70% of Taiwan’s imports travel by sea – food, oil, chips. Preparing to attack: A US report says China could be ready to attack Taiwan by 2027. But Taiwan will not surrender – the US is with it. Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-tey says that our greatest weakness is surrender. That’s why Taiwan focuses on asymmetric warfare – smaller, faster weapons that defeat a larger enemy. Taiwan’s Defense Budget: How Much Did It Increase, Why? Taiwan’s defense budget was previously low – 2.5% of GDP. But now there is a change in this. In 2025: Budgeted at 2.84% of GDP (about $20 billion). This is 20.1% more than last year. 2026 plan: 3.32% of GDP (about $22 billion). This includes Coast Guard and Pension. Big Announcement – November 2025: President Lee announces a special budget of $40 billion (approx. Rs. 3.3 lakh crore). It will run from 2026-2033. Where will it be spent? 50% on the purchase of American weapons. The rest on drones, AI, missiles, submarines and cyber defense. Target: 5% of GDP on defense by 2030. The US has talked about spending at least 5%. Fear of Chinese attacks. Taiwan says that preparing for war prevents war. But opposition parties (KMT, TPP) are trying to cut the budget. This budget will strengthen Taiwan – more ammunition, training and domestic arms production. American weapons: what is used in Taiwan? The US sells defense weapons to Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979. In 2025, the Trump administration made its first sale – F-16 jet parts, worth $330 million. Total sales since 2021 have reached $18 billion. The backlog (remaining deliveries) is $21.54 billion. NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) is a very powerful air defense system that intercepts incoming missiles, fighter jets and drones. This system prevented Russian attacks in the Ukraine war. Taiwan gets three units and radar. Its price is approximately $700 million. The contract was signed in November 2025, and first deliveries are expected by the end of this year. They will be deployed in Songshan Airport of Taipei and Tamsui area of New Taipei. Here, these, along with the Patriot and Taiwan’s own Sky Bow missiles, will form a strong three-layer defense shield. Patriot PAC-3 MSE is the world’s most advanced ballistic missile defense system. It can also intercept China’s long-range missiles in the air, the range of which is more than 100 kilometers. Taiwan gets 100 missiles. Their value is $882 million. Deliveries will begin in 2025 and will be fully operational by 2026. They will be deployed at major air bases in northern Taiwan to directly protect the capital, Taipei, and major cities. HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) It is a mobile rocket launcher with a range of 300 kilometers. If China attacks, it can attack Chinese coastal areas and ships directly from Taiwan. Taiwan gets a total of 29 launchers, 84 ATACMS missiles and 864 GMLRS rockets. The total value of this transaction is $1.06 billion. The first 11 units arrived in January 2025, and the remaining units will arrive in 2026-27. They are deployed in Western Taiwan, North and South Taiwan and Penghu Island. ATACMS Missiles These are 300 km range missiles used in HIMARS. It can target air bases and ships directly off the Chinese coast. Taiwan received its first batch of 16 missiles in January 2025, and 20 more are on the way. It is part of the HIMARS deal and there was no need to buy it separately. Harpoon anti-ship missiles: These are special missiles for sinking ships in the sea. These will be fired from the coast of Taiwan and can sink Chinese warships. Taiwan gets five launchers and AGM-84L-1 Block II missiles. It is part of the 2025 agreement. The entire delivery will be completed by 2027. It will be rolled out in the entire coastal area. Parts for F-16, C-130 and IDF aircraft Taiwan already has US F-16 fighter jets and C-130 transport aircraft. Now the parts and repair kits needed to get the old jet ready to fly are arriving. A deal worth $330 million was signed in November 2025. These parts will be used at all major Air Force bases in Taiwan. Switchblade Drones These are very small suicide drones. A soldier can carry it in a backpack and fly it directly at enemy tanks or soldiers. Taiwan is getting a total of 685 drones. Of these, 66 have already arrived. Another 150 will come by the end of 2025 and the rest in 2026. These will be with the Taiwanese army and military police. Altius-600M Drones These are slightly larger drones that can also spy on and attack the enemy. Can do too. Their delivery started in 2025, the rest are also in the pipeline. They will be deployed in different areas of Taiwan. With these weapons, Taiwan is now fully prepared to make any Chinese attack very expensive. Other weapons: TOW-2B anti-tank missiles, M1A2T Abrams tanks (1st battalion in 2025), radar systems (AN/TPS-77, AN/TPS-78). A total of 18 transactions are underway – 15 on schedule, 2 late. Co-production: Barracuda-500 Cruise Missile – US-Taiwan Cooperation. Cheap for Chinese ships. Training: 30 Taiwanese soldiers went to the US for training. These weapons give Taiwan a stoop-backbone strategy — making a Chinese attack costly. Taiwan’s preparation: Not just weapons, a complete plan Military Reform: 1 year compulsory service. Salary will rise. Complete preparation by 2027. Domestic weapons: Sky Bow III (ballistic missile defense), Hsiung Feng III (anti-ship, 400 km range). Infrastructure: Underground bunkers, strong air bases. AI command system. Cyber Defense: Sorry to stop Chinese hacking. US support: Trump said he would give more weapons to Taiwan. But he also pushed for a trade deal. The threat remains: what happens next? China opposes every US sale, calling it an internal matter. But Taiwan says that force is necessary for peace. The Rs 40 billion budget is yet to be approved – the opposition could block it.

Software update completed on all operational A320 aircraft of India to protect against solar radiation: DGCA

New Delhi, November 30 (IANS). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Sunday that all Indian airlines have completed the necessary software upgrades on their operational A320 aircraft. This step was taken by all airlines to avoid the risk of solar radiation, which could affect flight control data. According to DGCA, the software of 323 A-320 aircraft operated by IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express has been upgraded. This includes all 200 aircraft of IndiGo, 100 out of 113 aircraft of Air India and 23 out of 25 aircraft of Air India Express. DGCA officials said that four Air India aircraft are currently undergoing base maintenance and will be upgraded there, while nine other aircraft do not require upgrade. At the same time, two planes of Air India Express are undergoing maintenance and will be returned to their lessors. This software upgrade comes after a warning issued by Airbus on Friday. In it, the manufacturer said that during intense solar activity such as solar flares, the aircraft’s elevator and aileron computer (ELAC) may malfunction for some time. Following this, DGCA on Saturday issued instructions asking Indian aviation companies to upgrade the software without any delay. Air India Express said in a statement on Friday that it has completed the precautionary checks of its A320 fleet within the required time frame. The airline further said that strong coordination between its engineering, operations and flight safety teams and cooperation with Airbus and regulators helped ensure flight operations continued with minimal disruption. DGCA officials said the upgrade work has now been completed and the entire A320 fleet operating in India is safe and compliant with international flight regulations. –IANS ABS/ Share this story Tags
