Skydiver hanging from plane’s tail in terrifying mid-air nightmare — Watch video

A skydive over Far North Queensland nearly ended in disaster when a skydiver’s reserve parachute snagged on the tail of a Cessna Caravan, sending him hanging thousands of feet in the air and forcing the pilot to fight for control, according to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB). ATSB video shows the parachutist spinning helplessly as the reserve parachute wraps around the plane’s tail. The incident occurred on September 20, 2025, during a planned 16-way formation jump over Tully Airport. Fellow skydivers bail out. Thirteen of the other parachutists on board immediately jumped from the plane, while two remained in the door to help. The trapped parachutist hung under the tail and managed to pull out a hook knife and cut 11 lines from his reserve chute, tearing the canopy enough to break free. Safe Landing After being freed, he deployed his main parachute and descended safely alongside the others. According to the ATSB, he suffered only minor injuries. A camera operator who remained on board captured the entire ordeal and provided investigators with critical footage. How the incident unfolded The ATSB said the Cessna took off with 17 parachutists and a pilot who slowed the aircraft to 85 knots and extended 10° of flap before signaling the jump run. As the first parachutist got out, his reserve handle caught, causing the chute to come loose and violently drag him backwards. His legs struck the aircraft’s left horizontal stabilizer and severely damaged it before the parachute wrapped around the tailplane. Here’s that terrifying video of skydiver entangled on plane tail: “The plane suddenly pitched up” ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell said the unexpected drag caused a sudden loss of control. “The pilot remembers the plane suddenly pitching up and the airspeed rapidly decreasing,” Mitchell said. “Initially unaware of what had happened, the pilot believed the aircraft had stalled… But when they were told there was a parachutist attached to the tailplane, they reduced power again.”

Director convicted of defrauding $11 million from Netflix and going on lavish spending spree

NEW YORK (AP) – A Hollywood director was convicted Thursday on charges that he defrauded Netflix out of $11 million for a show that never materialized, using the cash instead for lavish purchases that included several Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari and about $1 million in mattresses and luxury bedding. Carl Erik Rinsch, best known for directing the film “47 Ronin,” has been convicted of fraud, money laundering and other charges in New York, according to court records and a spokesman for federal prosecutors. In a statement, Rinsch’s lawyer, Benjamin Zeman, said he thought the ruling was wrong and “could set a dangerous precedent for artists who become embroiled in contractual and creative disputes with their benefactors, in this case one of the largest media companies in the world, who are being indicted by the federal government for fraud.” Prosecutors said Netflix initially paid Rinsch about $44 million for an unfinished sci-fi show called “White Horse,” then wired another $11 million after it said it needed additional financing to wrap up production. But instead of putting the money toward the show, Rinsch sent the cash to a personal account where he made a series of failed investments, losing about half of the $11 million in a few months, according to prosecutors. He then put the remaining funds into the cryptocurrency market and made a small profit, although Rinsch then deposited the money into his own bank account. Then came the lavish purchases, prosecutors said, with Rinsch buying five Rolls-Royces and one Ferrari, along with $652,000 in watches and clothes. He also bought two mattresses for about $638,000 and spent another $295,000 on luxury bedding and linens. In addition, he used some of the money to pay off about $1.8 million in credit card bills, prosecutors said. Rinsch never finished the show. His sentencing date is set for April. Netflix declined to comment.

OpenAI Releases GPT-5.2 After Sam Altman’s ‘Code Red’ As Competition Between ChatGPT, Gemini Heats Up – What’s New?

OpenAI Releases GPT-5.2 After Sam Altman’s ‘Code Red’ As Competition Between ChatGPT, Gemini Heats Up – What’s New?

A month after its last ChatGPT update, OpenAI announced GPT-5.2 on Thursday, a little more than a week after Sam Altman declared a ‘Code Red’ amid intense competition from Google’s Gemini 3. “We’re introducing GPT-5.2, the most capable model series yet for professional knowledge work,” OpenAI said in its release note. “Overall, GPT-5.2 brings significant improvements in general intelligence, long-context understanding, agentic tool calls, and vision—making it better at executing complex, real-world tasks end-to-end than any previous model.” Added Open AI. While GPT-5.2 is the latest update to OpenAI, executives from the firm said that it would be wrong to see the latest update as a response to Gemini 3, as per Axios. Reports, earlier, speculated that GPT-5.2 could arrive this week, given the ‘Code Red’ situation. What’s new in GPT-5.2? OpenAI said that while heavy users of ChatGPT Enterprise say it saves them up to 10 hours a week, GPT-5.2 is intended to be even more efficient than the 5.1 model. In particular, GPT-5.2 will be better than its predecessor at creating spreadsheets, making presentations, writing code, understanding images, understanding long contexts, using tools and handling complex, multi-step tasks, Open AI said. OpenAI also highlighted GPT-5.2’s prowess in coding, including reviews from early testers who had time to experiment with the latest model. The reviews were glowing: “GPT-5.2 represents the biggest leap for GPT models in agentive coding since GPT-5 and is a SOTA coding model in its price range. The version bump undersells the leap in intelligence,” Jeff Wang, the CEO of Windsurf, was quoted as saying. GPT 5.2 benchmarks OpenAI also said that GPT-5.2 reached new highs in benchmark tests for thinking, with scores showing a marked improvement by the latest model over GPT-5.1 in abstract thinking. Benchmark GPT 5.2 Think GPT 5.1 Think GDPval (wins or ties) Knowledge tasks 70.9% 38.8% SWE-Bench Pro (public) Software engineering 55.6% 50.8% SWE bench Verified software engineering 80.0% 76.3% science 76.3% diamonds Science 76.3% 2% 2 questions 88.1% CharXiv Reasoning (w/ Python) Scientific Numerical Questions 88.7% 80.3% AIME 2025 (no tools) Competition Math 100.0% 94.0% FrontierMath (Level 1–3) Advanced Math 40.3% 31.0% Advanced 40.4% Math (Tier 4Math. 12.5% ARC-AGI-2 (Verified) Abstract Reasoning 52.9% 17.6% GPT-5.2 Instant, Thinking, and Pro will begin rolling out in ChatGPT itself on Thursday Competing with Google’s Gemini After declaring ‘Code Red’ in early December, an existential threat to his product amid increasing competition from Google’s Gemini, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman gave a surprising response to CNBC on Thursday, saying that the launch of Gemini 3 had less of an impact than he expected. “I believe that when a competitive threat occurs, you want to deal with it quickly,” Altman told CNBC, adding that he expects his company to exit the ‘Code Red’ situation by the end of January 2022 Pro can bring any idea to life with its modern reasoning and multimodal capabilities. It significantly outperforms 2.5 Pro on every major AI benchmark,” Google announced, adding that the launch of Gemini 3 was “another big step on the road to” artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Polri inaugurates remote certification building for assistant investigators

Jakarta – The National Police inaugurated the Remote Certification Building. The National Police Professional Certification Institute (LSP) has conducted the first kick-off of remote certification for police investigators and assistant investigators. This program is an important part of accelerating National Police transformation, which aims to strengthen the professionalism of investigators, while responding to public demands for more accountable and adaptable law enforcement services. This event was also attended by the National Police’s strategic partners from ministries/agencies, namely Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor, head of BNSP RI Syamsi Hari, and BNSP license assessor Ade Syaekudin. Their presence confirms that increasing the competence of investigators is an important agenda for the state to strengthen the quality of public services. In his remarks, the Deputy Minister of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia emphasized that competency certification for investigators is a regulatory mandate as well as an important tool to ensure the quality of performance of law enforcement officers. He explained that Long Range Certification (LRC) is a strategic innovation capable of reaching staff in multiple regions, including remote areas, while ensuring that assessments are conducted valid, reliable, fair and evidence-based according to BNSP standards. The Deputy Minister of Manpower said that the use of technology, the strengthening of assessors and the planning of sustainable human resource development are the keys to the success of this programme. Scroll to continue CONTENT Meanwhile, the Head of BNSP RI explained that the implementation of SJJ is based on the Decision of the Head of BNSP Number KEP.2759/BNSP/XI/2025. Certification covers nine schemes, ranging from general crimes, money laundering, cyber, corruption, narcotics, to the competence of national police educators. Even though it is conducted online, the integrity of the assessment process is still maintained through multi-layer supervision and a secure digital system. He added that this portfolio-based assessment is in line with international practice and is part of national efforts to improve the quality of human resources, which have achieved significant achievements this year. On this occasion Karo Penmas Divhumas Polri Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko emphasized that the acceleration of this certification was the Polri’s response to increasingly high public expectations regarding the quality of case handling. “This Remote Certification is not just an internal Polri program, but an urgent need to ensure that every investigator has the same, modern and accountable competency standards. The public has the right to get legal services that are fast, precise and professional – and the Polri answers this through stronger competency standardization based on national regulations,” says Trunoyudo. He added that the National Police is now entering an important phase with the immediate implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code and Penal Code, which requires investigators to increasingly understand evidentiary standards, modern procedures, and technology at every stage of the investigation. According to him, the implementation of SJJ allows certification to be carried out on a large scale without disrupting daily operations in the field so that services to the community continue to run optimally. In his report, Karorenmin Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Yudhi Sulistianto Wahid explained that the construction of this building stems from the strategic need to increase the capacity of investigators and accelerate the digitization of the process of development of Polri human resources.
