BKU’s demonstration on the call of United Front, memorandum submitted to the district administration on the demands of farmers

Greater Noida, November 26 (IANS). The resentment and dissatisfaction of the farmers over the pending demands of the farmers and the resolution of agricultural issues has come to the fore again. On the call of United Front, a huge protest was organized by Bharatiya Kisan Union at Surajpur Collector Office in Greater Noida. This protest was led by Ajit Adhana, while the responsibility of carrying it out remained in the hands of district president Robin Nagar. Hundreds of farmers from different areas reached the Collectorate premises since morning with flags in their hands and placards related to their demands and raised their voice in solidarity. Addressing the protest, West Uttar Pradesh President Pawan Khatana said that the movement has been going on in India for years to provide justice to the farmers, but the government is still taking an indifferent attitude towards the problems of the farmers. He recalled that five years ago there was a historic movement led by the United Front across India against the black laws related to agriculture. After the pressure of that movement, the government was forced to withdraw the laws and farmers were promised that MSP would be given legal guarantee. But, according to Pawan Khatana, neither the law on MSP has been implemented, nor any concrete steps have been taken on the demands of the farmers, and also the Swaminathan Commission report has not been implemented till date. He said farmers are still struggling with the problems of debt, increase in input prices, weather crisis and not getting fair prices for their crops, but the government is only backing down by giving insurance. During the dharna, farmer leaders and workers expressed their anger against the policies of the government and raised slogans like ‘Stop anti-farmer policies’, ‘Implement the legal guarantee of MSP’, ‘Implement the Swaminathan Commission Report immediately’. At the end of the movement, representatives of the Bharatiya Kisan Union submitted a detailed memorandum related to the demands of the farmers to District Officer Medha Rupam and appealed to convey the farmers’ views to the government. Farmer leaders have warned that if the demands are not resolved soon, the movement will further intensify and expand at the state and national level. Farmers organizations have clearly said that this struggle is for the rights of farmers and it will continue until the law on MSP, implementation of Swaminathan commission report and real and concrete steps are taken to reform the agriculture sector. –IANS PKT/SK Share this story Tags
