DVI Command Post identifies hundreds of bodies of disaster victims in Agam, West Sumatra

Agam – The Disaster and Victim Identification (DVI) Command Post in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, has started identifying the bodies of victims of flash floods and landslides. To date, 148 bodies have been identified. “To date, of all the posts opened by the West Sumatra Police and ranks, there are 148 people. 123 have been identified, the rest have not been identified,” said the DVI command post team, Kombes Wahono Edhi at the location, Sunday (30/11/2025). Wahono, who also serves as the head of the Riau Regional Police’s Health and Medical Sciences Division, said the SAR team is currently still searching. The search process involved a joint team from Basarnas, BNPB, West Sumatra Regional Police, Riau Regional Police, Jambi Regional Police and other related agencies. Furthermore, Wahono appealed to people who have lost family members to report to the DVI Command Post immediately. As is known, the flash floods and landslides that occurred in the West Sumatra region claimed hundreds of lives. Hundreds of other people were declared missing. Until now, the evacuation process is still ongoing involving a joint team of the West Sumatra Regional Police, BKO Riau Regional Police, Jambi Regional Police, BNPB, Basarnas, TNI and other agencies. The Riau Regional Police itself sent 390 personnel from the Samapta Directorate, Binmas Directorate, Polairud Directorate and Mobile Brigade Unit to the disaster site in Agam, West Sumatra. The personnel deployed have special capabilities in SAR. Apart from that, the Riau Regional Police also deployed a team of sniffer dogs (K-9) to help speed up the search for disaster victims. To recover from the trauma of victims in refugee camps, the Riau Regional Police sent dozens of psychologists from Riau Regional Police Human Resources and campuses throughout Riau. (mea/wnv)
