Dammika, elder brother of former Sri Lankan Test cricketer and World Cup winner Arjuna Ranatunga, was arrested by the country’s anti-corruption commission but was released on bail on Monday. The Commission for Investigation of Corruption (CIABOC) said 63-year-old Dammika was arrested in 2017 for unfair tendering process in the procurement of crude oil by government body Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC). He was its president at the time. CIABOC said that CPC suffered a loss of Sri Lankan Rupees 80 crore due to Dammika’s undue influence. CIABOC told the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that Dammika’s younger brother, Arjun, was named as the second accused in the case. Arjun could not be arrested because he is abroad. Arjun was the petroleum industry minister when Dammika was the CPC chief. Dammika played two Test matches as opening batsman against Australia in 1989-90.
