Sanitation workers in the capital Jaipur have announced an indefinite strike. The cleaning work was affected on Tuesday evening. Sanitation workers will not be seen on the city’s streets from Wednesday morning. Door-to-door garbage collection will also be affected. However, part of the sanitation workers will continue to work as before. On Tuesday, a meeting was held at the Municipal Corporation Headquarters under the banner of United Valmiki and Sweepers Union. The decision to strike was taken after consensus was reached on important demands, including the recruitment of sanitation workers. Sanitation workers from all over the city participated in the general meeting. A delegation of officials held talks, but no solution was found. Meanwhile, the fast unto death of Union President Nandkishore Dandoria continued for the fifth day. Urban Development and Local Bodies Minister Jabar Singh Kharra will meet corporate officials on Wednesday to restart the recruitment process and discuss other demands. Many demands were agreed upon and a committee was constituted by the corporation administration. A committee of Deputy Commissioner Pushpendra Singh Rathore, Om Thanvi, Aparna Sharma, Kavita Chaudhary and Rekha Meena was constituted. After discussions with the union, it was decided to postpone the decision to mark attendance through mobile applications. A letter will be written to the state government regarding the recruitment of sanitation workers, appointment in court cases, promotion on the basis of seniority and voluntary retirement.
