Till now two such cases have come up in Kanpur, where there was a problem in the SIR process after love marriage. SIR could not be done without the father’s ID. The first case is of a Muslim woman resident of Chamanganj, Kanpur, who severed ties with her family due to love affair. Actually the girl fell in love with a young man from Hamirpur but the family refused to marry her. The girl married the young man despite opposition from her family. Furious family members severed all relations with the daughter. The love affair was successful but now there is a problem in the SIR process. The girl will now have to show her father’s identity and ID and now she can’t even talk to her home. At present the SIR process stopped but next time the CAA asked to show the documents. It was hard to cut ties with the family. The second case is of a young man living in Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur, who fell in love with a friend from Rajasthan while working in Noida. The boy’s family agreed, but the girl’s family refused to marry. The girl ran away from home, married the boy and came to live in Kanpur. The girl broke all relations with her family. Now when the CAA reached the girl’s in-laws house and asked to get the SIR process completed, a problem arose for the girl. The girl cannot speak at home and for SIR it is necessary to show her father’s name and ID in the 2003 electoral roll. However, the girl tried to find a solution by talking to the neighbors. Women entangled in the vortex of SIR: These two cases testify to the fact that many girls who left home in love are today so entangled in the vortex of SIR that they cannot move forward or find a way to return home. Women who left home to sit with their loved ones are now unable to fight for their rights due to lack of identity and family support. Many are so helpless that they are unable to tell their problems to anyone. The situation is also serious for those married women whose parents have died or who live separately from their husbands. They do not even have the necessary documents, identity number or family hut number. As a result, he is now forced to make the rounds of officers. Women who have left home and are going to find a new way of life and relationships are now faced with a mountain of government procedures, where there is neither support from the family nor any concrete solution from the system.
