Special: Writer Prabha Khaitan, who spoke openly about feminism, surprised the literary world with her autobiography.

New Delhi, October 31 (IANS). The world was strange to women. Among the women who lived so close was Prabha Khaitan, an outstanding intellectual of Indian literature. Soft and graceful Prabha Khaitan surprised the literary world by writing the autobiography ‘Anya Se Ananya’ which exposed the untouched aspects of her life. The autobiography ‘Anya Se Ananya’ is the story of Prabha Khaitan’s difficult life. This autobiography breaks the boundaries of body discussion and feminism and brings a woman’s self-realization into a larger intellectual complex of culture, political movements, and economic self-reliance. In this, through the pain of insults and neglect, patriarchal dominance is so exposed that the autobiography no longer remains personal. Prabha Khaitan, born on November 1, 1942 in Kolkata, West Bengal, was deeply informed about philosophy, economics, sociology, world market and industry and was above all an active feminist writer. She wrote about exploitation of women in society, psychology and struggle for liberation. Her writings were nothing less than a revolution for women. Earlier in the Hindi scene, the Hindi translation of Simone de Beauvoir’s ‘The Second Sex’ ‘Stree Upekshita’ brought her into the limelight in the Indian feminist discussion. However, she was engaged in literary practice since the age of 12. As part of his higher education, he obtained an MA degree in Philosophy from Kolkata University. After this he completed his PhD on ‘Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialism’. Meanwhile, the writing process did not stop. Under the guise of Bengali women, she made a great effort to scrutinize the lives of women and wrote many essays. His first poem was published in ‘Suprabhat’. While Prabha Khaitan was given the distinction of being a feminist thinker, she continued to actively participate in the work of women’s consciousness and in the same sequence she wrote the autobiography ‘Anya Se Anyaya’. ‘Anya Se Ananya’ is the story of a woman who comes from the sidelines to the center, in which she is seen transforming her ‘being’ into ‘meaningful being’ by chewing the thorns of acacia. This first form can be seen in serial form in the literary magazine ‘Hans’. While this autobiography, which was first published in the weekly magazine ‘Hans’, was praised as a brave and courageous story of self-acceptance, it was also called out for the sick shamelessness of a shameless and shameless woman exposing herself at the crossroads. It was later published in book form by Rajkamal Prakashan in 2007. –IANS DCH/ABM Share this story Tags
