Strict action will be taken against policemen who provide any kind of help, including illegal mining and transportation of sand. Vijay Kumar Sinha, Deputy Chief Minister with the Ministry of Mines and Geology, said on Thursday that despite the continuous efforts and monitoring of the department, complaints have been received from some police station areas about such cases where tractors loaded with sand without number plates pass easily. If any involvement or collusion of police personnel at any level – police station, block or zonal – is brought to light, strictest action will be taken against them without any delay. The Deputy Chief Minister said that District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police have been ordered to identify sensitive places under special operations and conduct immediate raids there. He said that raids should not be a mere formality but should be aimed at effectively breaking the links of illegal transport. He also said that if from now on movement of vehicles without number plates is found, strict action will be taken by placing liability on the relevant officials. District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police have been instructed to ensure that the department’s team receives adequate support from each district and also to act promptly against any complaint. It is known that the Economic Offenses Unit on the instructions of Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary had also constituted a special team a day earlier to identify and take action against the sand and land mafia.
