New -delhi, October 12 (IANS). Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of Public Servants (Independent charge) for science and technology, visited the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday and appreciated the indigenous developed weather forecasting systems. He said these systems are important to strengthen disaster readiness and public safety, while also offending the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. Dr Jitendra Singh reviewed the web-yeast-based multi-hazard early warning decision support system (DSS) developed by IMD. He said it helped to achieve the estimated cost savings of about Rs 250 crore by eliminating the dependence on foreign sellers and saving Rs 5.5 crore in annual maintenance costs. This achievement is a big step towards confidence. After this, the Minister of State (independent charge) also checked the ‘Mausamgram’ platform. It is a unique, citizen-centric platform that provides hyper-local, location-specific weather forecasts to the village level. The system provides accurate predictions for the next 36 hours and up to a maximum of ten days. He said that ‘Mausamgram’ is available in all official Indian languages, ensuring that citizens across the country get information with their area on time and accurate weather. In his interaction with officials, Dr Singh also suggested that he incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into ‘Mausamgram’ to make it more user -friendly. He also congratulated the IMD team on winning the National Award for E-Governance 2025. Dr Singh had earlier participated in the special beauty program 5.0 at ‘Mausam Bhawan’ and planted a tree under the ‘I Ped Maae Name’ initiative and also 50 ‘Safai Mitras’ for their contribution in neatness activities. –Is Bag/DKP Share This Story Tags
