A low pressure area is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal, which will have more impact in the southern and coastal districts of the state. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea and the administration is monitoring the situation. Rain is likely to continue for the next few days. Bhubaneswar regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an alert predicting heavy rains in Odisha from October 24 to 26. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal within the next 12 hours, which may transform into a strong (well-marked) system in the next 12 hours. Due to changing weather conditions over the sea, rain may start from tomorrow itself in many parts of the state. Light to moderate rain is likely in some places, while southern and coastal districts may see more impact. However, currently no cyclone warning has been issued for Odisha. The local administration is closely monitoring the situation and people, especially in sensitive areas, have been advised to remain vigilant. Fishermen and residents of coastal areas have been warned not to go into the sea during this period. IMD Regional Center Director Manoharma Mohanty said that an upper air cyclonic circulation has formed over the South Andaman Sea and its adjoining southeastern Bay of Bengal, extending to a height of about 5.8 kilometers above sea level. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. This system is likely to move west-northwestward into a depression over central and adjoining west-central parts of South Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours. He further said that due to the effect of this system, rain activities will continue in the state for the next 5 to 7 days. Also, due to change in wind direction, moisture will remain in the atmosphere, further increasing the possibility of rain.
