This high-ranking National Police officer who once served as Assistant Superintendent of Police for Human Resources (As SDM) gave an example of a similar partnership model that has been successfully implemented in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Through an evidence-based policing approach, he continued, policies based on research results between the police and universities have been shown to increase public trust. “The National Police is optimistic that the integration of academic science and field experience will give birth to a police model that is adaptable, humanistic and research-based,” explained Komjen Dedi. “The National Police believes that this study center will develop as a Center of Excellence as well as a permanent partner in strengthening national security policies and creating a police force that is increasingly trusted and loved by the public,” continued the former Head of the National Police’s Public Relations Department. He added that the National Police continues to strengthen its institutional academic foundation through nine new study centers. These include centers for cyber, anti-corruption, community and traffic studies. “The National Police is also encouraging the implementation of the government’s Asta Cita by enforcing online gambling and drug laws, including the largest destruction of evidence in history amounting to 214.8 tons (Rp. 29.37 trillion),” said Dedi. Finally, Dedi emphasized that the National Police supports National Food Security by producing 2.5 million tons of commodities on 624 thousand hectares of land, as well as expanding the nutritious food program through the construction of 1,084 SPPGs throughout Indonesia. Head of the National Police Education and Training Institute, Komjen Chrysnanda Dwilaksana, who was present at the inauguration, hopes that this study center will be a catalyst for progress. “Hopefully this study center will encourage the National Police in their work and expand research traditions that support public safety,” he said. On the same occasion, Unissula chancellor prof. Dr. Gunarto emphasizes that this study center is Unissula’s commitment to be present as a strategic partner for the National Police in strengthening the quality of state security. If a country’s police force is weak, he added, the country will easily become fragile. “But if the police are strong, the country will stand strong. We want this study center not only to produce studies, but to produce police that are loved by the people, police that work with knowledge, empathy and support for substantive justice,” explains Gunarto. The Unissula FH Police Study Center is expected to become a node for intellectual dialogue and a center for strategic studies in strengthening public security. A number of experts will be involved in policy research, police training and the development of food security literacy. (audi/whn)
