Jakarta – BMKG revealed the potential to raise the status of Tropical Cyclone 91S or Cyclone Bakung in the southwestern region of Indonesia. Residents around the Bengkulu area up to the southern waters of West Java (Jabar) are asked to be alert tonight. “The status of Cyclone 91S is expected to increase to Tropical Cyclone Bakung in the area of responsibility of the TCWC (Tropical Cyclone Warning Centres) Jakarta from 19:00 WIB,” Teuku Faisal Fathani, head of BMKG, said during a press conference on the BMKG YouTube account, Friday (2122/51). Bakung cyclone seeds appeared in the Indian Ocean region southwest of Lampung. This cyclone’s status has continued to increase since December 7, 2025. Scroll TO CONTINUE CONTENT The emergence and movement of Cyclone Bakung is predicted to affect the weather and wave heights in a number of southwestern regions of Indonesia. The wind strength around the cyclone is predicted to be 35 knots or 65 km/h. “Even though this cyclone is moving to the west and southwest, and away from Indonesian territory, we should expect the potential indirect impact on weather and wave conditions in the next 1-2 days,” he added. Potential impacts of weather and waves: Medium-heavy rain (afternoon to evening): Bengkulu, Lampung, strong winds: West coast of West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, sea waves of 1.2.5-2.5 meters: Mentawai, Bengkulu, Lampung, southern waters from West Java to Sunda, southern waters of West Java.
